Year end

I can’t believe it’s the end of another year - things move so fast these days! It’s been a great year for me and things have moved on nicely from where I left off last year. I’ve just finished updating my main site with some of my favourite shots from this year, including short extracts of two of my favourite weddings this year.

I still have one more wedding to go this year before taking it easy over Christmas (for a change…). 2008 starts early for me - back in Kenmare for a New Years Day wedding - can’t wait!

All that’s left to say is thank you to all the couples that graced my lenses this year and those that booked me for next year and beyond.

Be happy, safe and take it easy over the festive season.

Destination New York

After seeing pictures from a wedding I shot in Ireland for their friend, Patrick and Liliana got hold of me to ask if I would be willing to shoot their wedding in New York. I always wanted to get over there but something always got in the way, so the diary was freed up and I was definitely on for this trip!

The wedding took place in leafy upstate New York last month, so despite the short evenings, the fall colours made for a perfect setting. The weather held for an outdoor ceremony, Patrick and Liliana were a really cool couple (with a great bridal party too) and New York itself was just magic.

I didn’t get much time to explore NY with a camera but I’ve posted some efforts below from some time spent in Times Square. The whole of NY is such a graphical location - perfet for street photography. The colours, lines, shapes, people and the whole dynamic of the place (especially at night) all add up to a very inspiring place. I’ll definitely be back.

I aim to do more destination weddings over time. If anyone would like to have me shoot their wedding anywhere outside of Ireland, I’d be happy to discuss it with you.

This is my favourite image from the trip. A flick of the wrist and a show shutter gives a nice abstract effect (of course you have to wait to get all the taxis just where you want them…)

More here. Some very popular subjects but it’s a challenge coming up with your own twist:

I’m off travelling for two weeks.

I will have access to e-mail so e-mail me or leave me a v-mail and I will get back to you on my return or before then if urgent.

HTML site

Just a quick note to advise that I have put a HTML site online. Basically this is a stripped down version of my main website and better suited to those with dial up connections or poor performing broadband (despite what our ISP’s tell us, you don’t always get what’s on the tin!). It can be reached via my splash page at www.niallmcgann.com
